  • The main points are that he thinks the game is irresponsible and wants it banned as its an addiction which leads to people playing it for a long time.
  • I disagree because i think that all games can be played for a long time but because its popular its more noticeable that its played for a long time.
Healthcare triage on video games:
  • The main points are that violent games give you violent thoughts and sad books give you sad thoughts so your feelings can be brought out by anything not just games. After playing the games for a while you'll become less hostile because your used to it more.

  • If shown violence they will copy it and will imitate the behaviours of others so 3-6 year olds shouldn't be playing. video games according to his theory.
  • I disagree with his theory as if you teach your child how to behave they will follow what you do and not imitate others .

PEGI= Regulates video games.



PEGI 3

The content of games with a PEGI 3 rating is considered suitable for all age groups. The game should not contain any sounds or pictures that are likely to frighten young children. A very mild form of violence (in a comical context or a childlike setting) is acceptable. No bad language should be heard.


PEGI 7

Game content with scenes or sounds that can possibly be frightening to younger children should fall in this category. Very mild forms of violence (implied, non-detailed, or non-realistic violence) are acceptable for a game with a PEGI 7 rating.



PEGI 12

Video games that show violence of a slightly more graphic nature towards fantasy characters or non-realistic violence towards human-like characters would fall in this age category. Sexual innuendo or sexual posturing can be present, while any bad language in this category must be mild.


PEGI 16

This rating is applied once the depiction of violence (or sexual activity) reaches a stage that looks the same as would be expected in real life. The use of bad language in games with a PEGI 16 rating can be more extreme, while the use of tobacco, alcohol or illegal drugs can also be present.


PEGI 18

The adult classification is applied when the level of violence reaches a stage where it becomes a depiction of gross violence, apparently motiveless killing, or violence towards defenceless characters. The glamorisation of the use of illegal drugs and of the simulation of gambling, and explicit sexual activity should also fall into this age category. 




Fortnite is a PEGI 12 because although you have to kill people it is not very graphic or violent.

How is the video game industry regulated?

The video game industry is regulated by PEGI there are 3,7,12,16 and 18 ratings for different age groups. Fortnite has a rating of PEGI 12 as its violent but not graphic as its cartoon like. Anyone younger than 12 shouldn't play this game as it is to graphic for younger ages. PEGI 12 contains a little bit of bad language and must contain mild violence. PEGI 16 is when the violence becomes more graphic and its represented in real life and the use of smoking and illegal drugs can be used/ present. PEGI 18 is when it contains all the PEGI 16 things but gambling and motiveless killing of defenceless characters is also/ can be used.

Convergence benefits the Fortnite brand as it allows people from different consoles/platforms to play together and even across the world which bring them closer together.It allows a larger audience across platforms as it isn't a high age rating you only have to be 12+ which benefits as there are many people across the world that can play their game. You can switch platforms mid game and also play on the move which benefits them as they can play it wherever they are and even on a long journey their audience can play making it a more popular game to play. Broadcasting competitions on streaming platforms and youtube benefits them as not only can people watch their favourite creators play Fortnite the brand is also extending where the game can be seen increasing the popularity even more.

Synergy benefits the Fortnite brand as it brings more people to the game because there favourite artist or game has connected with Fortnite which makes them want to play it more. Creating a wider audience is good as they introduce popular people to the game making their fans want to play the game because their favourite people are in it. Synergy also makes. the game fresh with collaborations and new releases which brings people who were bored of the game back to it as new things are introduced. Collaborations also appeals to different age groups and gamers as they bring different characters and other things to the game making more people join in on playing the game.

Battle royale is free to play but it makes money due to in game purchases such as skins and accessories which you have to pay for.

 Fortnite make money off of it by advertising the game on different media platforms with trailers which brings in different audiences to game making more people pay for in app purchases such as skins and cosmetics which can also be famous people because they have collaborated which brings more people to spend money on the game to get their favourite artist,  actors or gamers. They were also streaming games/ live events in real life so more people watch bringing more revenue for the company.

The people who published Fortnite are Epic Games. Fortnite is a PEGI 12 due to the violence but as its a cartoon games its restricted at a 12+. The game has became so popular due to the many collaborations and the popular growth of many services advertising such as twitch,  youtube etc which makes it easy noticeable for others due to the growth in the use in technology. The game has became so successful as the collaborations are for everyone due to the wide variety of different things that has been added. 

The game targets the audience of 12+. The games appeals to varieties of people due to the celebrities such as Travis Scott, Ariana Grande and much more. The gratification theory stand for PIES which is Personal identity, information, entertainment and social interaction. What the audience gain from playing the game is they gain more friends as you can play with anyone including your friends and they all can get entertained by the wide selection of game modes all for everyone to enjoy these modes are also updated so no-one ever gets bored. Also theres a rotation everyday of the item shop which brings in new and old items for people to obtain by buying the in game currency. The game also summarises all new updates on there website and on the news page on the actual game itself. 

Fortnite uses many technologies such as Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo switch and many more therefore the game is easily accessible for all to play so everyone can play. They also use streaming platforms so many creators are seen playing the game so it makes more people want to play. Social media is used as its advertised massively on their website and also places such as youtube, instagram and more.
